Field Mapping

One of my favorite and most time intensive off season farm job is creating field maps! In this stage of our farm we are trying to maximize bed profitability to get to a financially sustainable threshold of income. It is a real puzzle to fit everything we hope to grow into the beds that we have.

A few years ago I made a google sheet with each bed having a row, and each week of the year a column. As a visual learner, I love this. Now we walk the fields with a binder and can see what needs to happen for each bed each week and what is coming up next.

Each year I add columns, so we may now track each bed’s history visually over several years! Pretty neat.
